VIP BLACKPOOL SHOW CALLED OFF

Thursday, March 4th, 2010

VIP Boxing has been forced to scrap their show at Blackpool Tower on Saturday night (March 6) due to illness and injury.

Bill topper Brian Rose was forced to pull out today (Thursday) after going down with a bout of flu, Terry Flannigan is also unwell, while bantamweight prospect Kieran Farrell is injured.

Fans who purchased tickets will receive a full refund from the point of purchase.

Some of the fights scheduled to take place on the Blackpool bill will be added to the next VIP show at Bolton on March 14, and others placed elsewhere.

Promoter Steve Wood hopes to reschedule the Blackpool bill in the next couple of months and apologises to loyal fans and VIP boxers affected by the second postponement of the show.

He said: “I can only say sorry to fans that had made plans to be in Blackpool this weekend. If I went ahead with the promotion it would not be value for money.

“It has been jinxed from the off and lose seven boxers from the original ten house fighters due to fight – Brian Rose, Jack Arnfield, Mike Stafford, Brett Flourney, Kieran Farrell, Terry Flannigan and Lee Jennings.

“Brian was unwell on Wednesday and saw a doctor, but he felt worse when he woke up on Thursday morning and is in no condition to fight ten rounds leaving him little option but to pull out.

“The other lads pulled out earlier in the week, but I wanted to press on for Brian’s sake.”

Further details of the fights being added to our Bolton bill will be released next week.

FARRELL: LIVES FOR BOXING AND THE SUPERMARKET

MOST professional boxers will tell you about their dedication, but few can match bantamweight hopeful Kieran Farrell.

The Heywood teenager bids to stretch his unbeaten record to five wins when he tackles Anwar Alfadi at Blackpool Tower on Saturday night (March 6).

Ambitious Farrell, 19, trains under top Manchester trainer Bobby Rimmer who is amazed at the prospects dedication.

Rimmer said: “All my kids are dedicated so I do not like to single any one out, but there can’t be many fighters anywhere who are so committed to the sport as Kieran.
“He only goes to two places outside his house – Morrisons and the gym. Kieran lives and breathes boxing and thinks of nothing else.
“When he is matched he knows everything about the opponent before we look them up. His knowledge is incredible.
“I know he has had so few fights, but I think he is ready to fight the top domestic kids in his division because there is so few decent fighters around.”

Farrell who is managed and promoted by Steve Wood turned professional 13 months ago when he stopped Gary Sheil and continued to impress not losing a round in three subsequent fights.
Rimmer added: “Kieran is improving all the time and I couldn’t be more pleased with his progress.
“When he first walked in my gym I thought he was a 12-year-old schoolboy who wanted to look around and not the kid I wasn’t to meet about training him.”

Top of the talent stacked VIP bill is local hero Brian Rose’s vacant International Masters light-middleweight showdown against French star Bertrand Aloa

Also on the card are several if VIP boxing’s prospects including Terry Flannigan , Chris O’Brien and Chris Johnson.

Tickets, priced at £35 are still available from boxers on the bill www.ticketmaster.co.uk and www.vipbe.co.uk

ROSE WANTS HIS PRINCE

Monday, March 1st, 2010

BRIAN ROSE is heading towards a showdown with Prizefighter winner Prince Arron.

Rose, 25, hopes to delight his hometown fans at Blackpool Tower on Saturday night (6th March) when he challenges French star Bertrand Aloa for the vacant International Masters light-middleweight crown.

Promoter Steve Wood hopes that the Central Area title holder could meet his occasional sparring partner Arron in a British title eliminator later this year.

Wood said: “It is a match that would make a lot of sense for both boxers and would be a genuine 50-50 fight.

“Brian is unbeaten and Arron is in top form as he showed at Prizefighter last week, but we cannot over look this weekend’s challenge.”

Rose (14-0-1) added: “It was difficult to work Arron out when we first sparred because he is 6ft 4in, but by the end it had gone well.”

Rose’s clash against Aloa had been due to take place last weekend but was pushed back seven days at late notice because of a problem with medicals.

Manchester based Wood said: “I would like to apologise to everybody because the mix up was my fault and left it too late to get the medicals to the relevant authorities.

“I’m sure disappointed fans will get proper entertainment this weekend though and enjoy a top class night of boxing.

The tear up the Tower will be Rose’s first fight since his tragic tenth round stoppage of Jason Rushton in October.

Rushton needed brain surgery after the contests and although he is on the mend, the injury left Rose distraught and he is dedicating the Aloa (15-6) fight to his former rival.

Also on the bill are several if VIP boxing’s top prospects including Kieran Farrell, Chris O’Brien and Chris Johnson.

Tickets are still available from boxers on the bill www.ticketmaster.co.uk and www.vipbe.co.uk

JAMIE MOORE – Next boxes on the 3rd April 2010 Hayemaker event at the MEN arena where he will compete at Middleweight in a 10 round International contest. He was offered the Darren Barker fight but the team declined this as it was over 8 years ago when he first fought for a British title and we all believe he is beyond domestic level. A inspired performance at the new weight is expected and then we can look for World opportunities.

TONY QUIGLEY – Also fights on this card in a 8 round contest and is also now campaigning at Middleweight . Tony offered to take the Darren Barker fight on this show but was turned down at the other end , it should also be noted he accepted a proposal to fight Brian Magee for the European Super-Middleweight title on this promotion but negotiations collapsed.

Latest Results …..

Monday, December 21st, 2009

CARL DILCS – Boxed the ears of Charles Adamu in his challenge for the Commonwealth Super-Middleweight title on Friday night only to see the judges get it wrong again and he lost by a split decision. Adamu was just throwing punches like a drunk , missing by miles whilst Dilks kept calm and picked him off with the jab both scoring and hurting the former champion who once went 12 rounds with Carl Frock , not one person has said they thought Dilks lost, including SKY who had him 4 rounds in front and Boxing news who had him 6 rounds in front – when is this incompetence going to end ????.

JOLLY BOYS RESULTS FROM BOLTON ON 20TH DECEMBER 2009

TREVOR CREWE – Lost 40-37 to Terry Carruthers who after an equal first round found Trevor to easy to hit and not throwing punches after getting into position ,therefore making it easy to land. Trevor looked in great physical condition but like his last fight seemed to tire and was loading up with everything.

MIKE STAFFORD – Won the first round against Billy Boyle and then seemed to quickly run out of gas leaving Boyle to do the most work and win on points. At one stage Mike was looking like he was treading in a pool of water and did not look like he would survive, but he battled on as best he could to see the end out.

TERRY FLANNIGAN – Improves in every fight and stopped Delroy Spencer in the 3rd with a good body assault which saw the referee jump in , Delroy had already been over. Terry moves to 5-0 and it is time to step him up now.

JOSH WARRINGTON – The 18year old moved to 2-0 with a controlled display of aggressive boxing winning every round against Pavol Senkos.

STEPHEN JENNINGS – Beat Yussif Al Hamedi on points in what was a messy contest as expected , but was more about the win than looking good and he got it.
