VIPBoxing Roundup …..

Sunday, May 30th, 2010

Good but not great weekend for VIP boxers

Friday 28th May 2010

Gary Sykes – Defended his British title with a landslide points victory over the game Kevin O’Hara who never stopped trying but was out of his class against the Dewsbury 5 Star champion who is growing in confidence each fight.

Tyrone Nurse – Shown his improvement by stooping the normally durable Johnny Greaves in 5 rounds , they have fought previously with a points win for Nurse who continues to impress.

Josh Warrington – Moved to 3-0 with a aggressive punching display against the game debutant Riley from Middlesbrough who despite being hit by everything kept in the fight. At the end he looked like he had been run over by a bus and the shame was that SKY did not film this fight of the night.

Bryan Rose – Blew his chance of first crack at Sam Webb’s British title defence when he was knocked out in round 6 by Max Maxwell. Bryan did not look his normal self and although not at his best was winning the fight until after his best round in the fifth , he started on the ropes in round 6 with his hands down and copped a beauty overhand hayemaker. It is a harsh lesson to learn but we believe it will make him a better fighter and the British crack will come again.

Saturday 29th May 2010

Mark Moran – Was stopped in the third round of the opening round against eventual Prize-fighter winner Willey Casey in what proved to be fight of the night in a great tournament. Despite 13 months out Mark won the 1st round showing his better boxing skills clicking up points with straight punches and good body shots , we hoped this would continue but Willie drew Mark into a fight and although competitive with both fighters hurt on many occasions, Willie turned out the slightly stronger and durable man on the night.

Sunday 30th May 2010

Jon Kays – Was disappointed when Master challenger Mo Khalid withdrew and his fight was reduced to a 8 round contest with Bulgarian Yordan Vasilev. However he kept his composure and boxed a very neat fight winning every round dominating behind a good jab and working the body well.

Terry Flannigan – Keeps showing massive improvement and stopped Hungarian Csaba Toth in under a minute.

Warren Tansey – Another VIP fighter who improves each day got his third stoppage on the trout – since his debut loss – with a first round KO off the normally durable Ally Morrisson.

Rose’s Tangerine Dream

ROSE’S TANGERINE DREAM

BRIAN ROSE plans to emulate Blackpool’s amazing Premier League rise in the boxing ring.

Unbeaten Rose (14-0-1) is heading towards boxing’s top flight and is booked to challenge British champion Sam Webb in the autumn.

He has a warm up at Huddersfield Leisure Centre on Friday (28/5) when he faces Birmingham’s Max Maxwell (11-9-2).

Blackpool fan Rose hails from the seaside town that hit the headlines after their sensational play-off triumph against Cardiff City on Saturday.

And his supporters at Friday’s testing fight will don tangerine wigs worn by Blackpool fans at Wembley.

Rose, 25, said: “The Wembley triumph has given Blackpool the lift that it needed.

“What Ian Holloway and the boys achieved was magnificent and I wouldn’t mind some of that success myself.

“Some of my fans are still celebrating promotion and everyone who has bought a ticket from me will be wearing tangerine wig at the Maxwell fight.

“Provided I get thorough Maxwell, my promoter Frank Maloney will deliver a British title fight and like the footballers I won’t let the town down.”

Maxwell, 30, (11-9-2) will certainly give Rose a test in their eight rounder that is likely to be televised live on Sky Sports.

He holds a draw with Prizefighter winner Prince Arron although he lost their return on points earlier this month.

Top of the bill is local favourite Gary Sykes (14-0) who makes the first defence of his British super-featherweight title against Belfast’s Kevin O’Hara (17-5).

Former domestic champion Carl Johanneson (28-4) who is lined up to face the winner is a late addition to the bill.

There are some tickets left price £30 and £70 from 0871 226 1508 or www.frankmaloney.com
